Online Safety is an important element of safeguarding at our school. We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any Online Safety incidents are recorded and managed in accordance with our Online Safety Policy. Online Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.

We encourage parents/ carers to talk to their children about how to behave safely when online, to ensure pupils remain safe when browsing at home. This section of our website aims to provide both parents and children with links to really useful advice on how to be safe when using the internet.

The Think U Know website will help you use the internet in a safe way and gives advice to children about who to talk to if they are worried. You can also find a range of videos to watch and activities to complete with your child, for ages 4-7 and ages 8-10.

The NSPCC website provides advice for parents about keeping your child safe when using the internet, social networking websites and online gaming.

Net Aware provides parents and carers with information about social networks, apps or games with an interactive element that children use most frequently. Parents can explore what other parents and children are saying about the sites, and form their own views about the appropriateness of popular sites.

Common Sense Media helps families make smart media choices. They offer the largest, most trusted library of independent age-based and educational ratings and reviews for movies, games, apps, TV shows, websites, books, and music. 

Through the CEOP (The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) reporting website, children or parents and carers can report something that has happened online which has made a child feel unsafe, scared or worried.

Parental Controls

Parental controls are designed to help protect children from inappropriate content they may come across online. These controls can be used to limit access to only age-appropriate content, to set usage times and to monitor activity. There are four main places you can implement parental controls, and it can help to set up a combination of these;

1. Internet service provider who provide your home internet e.g. BT Broadband
2. Mobile phone operator for example Vodafone or EE
3. All individual devices that can access the internet e.g. iPad, laptop, smart phone
4. Specific online services and websites for example BBC iPlayer and YouTube
