Our democratically elected School Council – together with our Head and Deputy Head boys and girls – were invited to the historic Houses of Parliament in Westminster for a special guided tour on Monday 4th December, 2017.
Organised with our local Member of Parliament (M.P.), our pupils were mesmerised as they toured this beautiful historic building. Our expert tour guide, who recounted the history of the Palace of Westminster, brought alive the history and the royal and democratic significance of this iconic London landmark. The children, who posed lots of questions to our tour guide, stood in both the House of Lords and The House of Commons, with its famous green benches.
As well as learning about Parliament’s history, the children also learnt about the purpose of laws and how they are made, helping them to gain a better understanding of the democratic process and the Rule of Law in Britain today.
