Matisse Cut Outs

Team Reception have been looking at Henri Matisse cut outs. We read a book about how Matisse created his paper cut outs, by painting paper in lots of bright colours and then cutting and arranging shapes to create his art work. We explored mixing paints to create new colours (and learned not to mix all the colours in the palette!).

We then practised good scissor control as we cut out some seaweed and bird shapes from coloured paper.

Matisse used all the paper, so we made sure we cut up the “scraps” to make new shapes to go on our artwork.

If you make some more Matisse art at home I’d love to see it!
